Bank Customer Safety Tips
The GBA wants to
share these measures you can take to enhance your personal safety when
making transactions at the bank.
In General
-
Be aware of your surroundings at all times.
-
Be as discreet as possible with your transactions – don’t
make your wallet, cash, deposit bags etc…visible to onlookers when
entering or exiting the bank.
-
Notify law enforcement or bank personnel immediately if you
are the victim of a crime or if you notice something suspicious.
-
Lock your vehicle’s doors and do not leave valuable items
such as cash, cell phones, computers or other items in your vehicle
or in plain view.
-
If you are approached outside of a bank by someone you do not
know, immediately go inside and tell someone about it.
-
If you encounter a mechanical problem with your vehicle, go
inside immediately to get the assistance you need. Be very careful
about accepting assistance from strangers.
ATM security
-
Be aware
of your surroundings at all times.
-
Trust your gut. If for some reason you are uncomfortable with the area
or machine, don’t use it. There's usually another ATM nearby that may be
in a more comfortable setting for you.
-
Be as discreet as possible with
your transactions – put away your card and withdrawal as quickly as
possible.
-
Notify law enforcement or bank personnel immediately if you are the
victim of a crime or if you notice something that is suspicious.
-
Be alert as to the condition of the ATMs – particularly in the area of
the card insert slot and keyboard. If something appears to have been
tampered with or doesn’t seem to be working correctly, do not use the
machine and report it immediately. Go into the branch or contact the
bank using the toll-free number likely found on the ATM or your
ATM/debit card.
-
If you have used an ATM that you are suspicious about, report it
immediately to the branch.
