Learn Why Leadership GBA's Susan Keigans Keeps Coming Back to GBA-U

Susan Keigans, Executive Vice President, Planters & Citizens Bank, Camilla and Leadership GBA Executive Committee member has been a familiar face at GBA events over the past 4 years. Keigans has attended a variety of GBA-sponsored events, including the annual Marketing Conference, the Leadership GBA Conference, and the Georgia Banking School held each year at the University of Georgia.  Keigans is a member of the GBA Finance/Operations Roundtable, and regularly attends their meetings as well. Keigans said,"Each year, I look forward to attending and participating in more educational events sponsored by GBA. The knowledge and resources that I've been equipped with, along with the relationships that I've built with fellow Georgia bankers have positioned me and my bank for success."

Security Pre-Conference Workshop Offered at Compliance Conference Oct. 19

Because many Compliance Officers also wear the Security Officer hat, GBA has scheduled a bank security workshop in conjunction with the annual Compliance Conference. It will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 9-11:30 a.m. at Idle Hour Country Club in Macon. Steve Cross with SunTrust Bank, Atlanta, will bring you up to date on information related to bank robberies. Briggette Jimenez also with SunTrust Bank, Atlanta, will discuss what we need to do to maintain appropriate physical security to protect a bank and its major resource, its employees. Rounding out the workshop will be Dave Riser with RBC Bank, Alpharetta, who will give you the current trends in fraud and bank secrecy. Registration for this workshop is complimentary if you register for the Compliance Conference. Registration for the workshop only is $75. With questions, please contact Marybeth Jones at 404.420.2032 or Susie McGehee at 404.420.2010.

Marketing and Communications Workshop Scheduled at Annual Conference

What can banks learn from President Obama, Sarah Palin and great companies? Love them or loathe them, the most successful politicians and companies share something in common - well-defined, powerful and consistent messages about who they are, their values and what their voters or customers can expect from them. The best do so with a disciplined, carefully honed communications strategy and campaign. This workshop during the annual Marketing and Communications Conference will help you craft a set of influential messages for your bank and provide you with tools for ensuring effective message discipline. You'll get a practical guide for how to deliver those messages to a full spectrum of your bank's stakeholders including employees, current and prospective customers, directors, media and a variety of others you may not have considered. Also, we'll incorporate a discussion about how best to use new technology and tried-and-true methods for delivering your story. As with a good political campaign, participants will learn how to empower management, employees and supporters to be effective promoters for the bank, its products and the industry. We'll feature lots of hands-on work time, examine video, Internet and print examples of successful techniques and tactics, and provide a thorough planning matrix so you can put what you learn into practice. Presenting experts will be:

  • John Marsh, president, Marsh Communications LLC, a financial services investor relations, PR, corporate and marketing communications firm and GBA Associate Member

  • Andy Mus, senior vice president, Marsh Communications LLC

  • David Rubinger, president, Rubinger, Inc., a strategic communications and public relations firm and GBA Associate Member.

This is only one component of this year's Marketing and Communications Conference scheduled for Oct. 26-27 at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta. For more information or to register, please contact Marybeth Jones at 404.420.2032.

Get Involved: Get Smart About Credit Day - Oct. 19

Changes in the economy and new legislation will likely influence the mechanics of obtaining credit. Teaching young people how best to use credit will equip them to handle adult financial responsibilities. You can help by participating in a program championed by Leadership GBA, the ABA Education Foundation's annual Get Smart About Credit Day on Oct. 19. Participation is easy, and your efforts count as qualified Personal Economics Program activities. Contact your local high school, connect with youth groups or visit college campuses and schedule a credit presentation for Oct. 19 - Get Smart About Credit Day. The ABA Education Foundation has created an excellent resource kit that contains everything you need for your presentation. Included in the kit are a video, lesson plans, hands-on activities and worksheets that youth can relate to. To order the resource kit, call the ABA at 1-800-BANKERS or visit the ABA web site at www.aba.com. With questions about the kit or the program, please call GBA's Jennifer Stevens at 404.420.2024 or Susie McGehee at 404.420.2010. Plan today to make a difference in the future of your community's young people.
