Don’t Miss the Annual Leadership Conference July 13-16 in Ponte Vedra, Florida
Leadership GBA will host the 48th annual Leadership Conference on July 13-16 at the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club in Ponte Vedra, Florida.  In keeping with the Leadership GBA’s theme, Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders Today, the Executive Committee has planned a great program packed with an impressive group of speakers and topics that include:

Leadership Training: This year’s program will feature leadership training by Peter Topping, Ph.D., Associate Professor at the Goizueta Business School at Emory University, AtlantaIn this interactive session, you will learn how to use the power of "both/and" thinking for you and your staff.

How to Find Fee Income: How, and from where, will banks generate fee income in the face of the free-checking, free-billpay, free-everything trend? Will it come from debit cards, ATMs, or any other consumer service? Will it come from new corporate services? If so, which ones? Join Lee Wetherington with Goldleaf Technologies, Hahira, as he answers these questions and many more.

Economic Outlook: Join Dr. Roger Tutterow, Professor of Economics, Stetson School of Business and Economics, Mercer University as he provides a timely overview of the current national and regional economic environment.  Topics will include recent challenges to the economic expansion, the role of energy prices in consumer price inflation, the recent tightening in the debt market and its implication for corporate activity and strategies, shifts in real estate financing, the outlook for monetary and fiscal policy and the implications of the pending elections for the political climate both “inside the beltway” and in your community.

Economic Development Update:
What types of opportunities exist for growing Georgia's economy?  What factors attract companies to Georgia?  What are Georgia's challenges?  Come hear the answer to these questions and much more as Brenda Robbins, Senior Project Manager, Community & Economic Development, Georgia Power, Atlanta, provides you with Georgia’s current economic development status as well as valuable information on the fundamentals of attracting new business to your community.

Humor, Inspiration and Motivation: Come hear Bruce Goddard, a fourth generation undertaker from Reynolds, Georgia, as he shares some interesting observations he’s made about life.  Some of those observations will make you laugh, some will make you cry.  But above all, Bruce will teach you how to truly celebrate life, with all its quirky imperfections.

Also included are several social activities to give you the opportunity to network with your colleagues.  We will kick off the conference Sunday evening with a great buffet and entertainment for the entire family.  No Leadership Conference would be complete without the traditional golf tournament.  The Scramble Tournament will be held on Ponte Vedra Inn and Club’s Ocean Course.  We will close the conference with a farewell reception and dinner.

Brochures and registration forms were mailed in April.  You may also register online.  If you would like to receive a brochure or additional information, please call GBA’s Susie McGehee at 404.420.2010 or Jennifer Stevens at 404.420.2024.

Leader Tips: How to Earn Cooperation from Others

Cooperation and teamwork is essential to our success as bankers. Try these tips from the Leader’s Institute to improve cooperation among your co-workers and customers.

  1. Acknowledge the importance of other people. The deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated. -William James

  2. Show enthusiasm and energy. Enthusiasm is by far the highest paid quality on earth, probably because it is one of the rarest; yet it is one of the most contagious. -Frank Bettger

  3. Encourage and facilitate two-way conversation. Education is a kind of continuing dialogue, and a dialogue assumes, in the nature of the case, different points of view. -Robert Hutchins

  1. Ask other people's opinions. I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them. -George Bush

  2. Ask questions instead of giving orders. Never tell people how to do things. Tell them what you want them to achieve and they will surprise you with their ingenuity. -Gen. George S. Patton

  3. Show sincere gratitude. God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one to say "thank you? -William A. Ward

  4. Give strength centered compliments. The life of many a person could probably be changed if someone would only make him feel important. -Dale Carnegie
