Welcome to the second

involved in making a difference in people's lives, and resources you
can use in your bank and community.

Meet Kim...
| Kim Brannen
was elected Vice President of Leadership GBA at the annual
conference last July. |

Brannen |

her "real job" Kim is a Vice President at
Sea
Island Bank in Statesboro where she manages the
bank’s Private Client Group. Kim came to the bank in 1997
but has been in banking for 14 years. She graduated from
Georgia Southern University in 1994 where she received
her Bachelors Degree in Finance with an emphasis in banking.
She has completed the Synovus Leadership Institute

also great networking contacts when we explore new
initiatives at Sea Island Bank,” she concluded.

Too many young
Americans today aren’t getting enough good, practical information on
how to handle their money. Many parents don’t feel confident in
providing this basic information. In one study, just 26 percent of
parents with children five or older said they felt they were prepared
enough to teach their kids about basic personal finances.
That’s why
ABA Education Foundation, along with
Leadership GBA,
is again taking steps to lead kids on the path to a positive financial
future. On Tuesday, April 24, bankers nationwide will speak at local
elementary, middle and high schools to teach students the importance
of saving money on
National Teach Children to Save Day.
| “Bankers
are experts at money management, so it’s a natural fit for us to
be involved in financial education efforts,” said Leadership GBA
President Jay Forrester, with
Georgia Bank & Trust Company in Augusta. “Just as
your local firefighters and |

police
officers are knowledgeable in community safety courses, we have
the knowledge and skills to fill the financial education gap.
We should do everything we can on National Teach Children to
Save Day to help fill that gap and prepare our children for a
positive financial future.”
Preparation for
your presentation is easy, thanks to the ABA Education
Foundation. They have created two
turnkey resource kits (Grades
K-6 and
Grades 7-12) that are easy to use and cost-effective.
Included in the kits are lesson plans, age appropriate
activities, a quiz for parents and website suggestions. To
order either resource kit, click on the above links or simply
call the ABA at 1-800-BANKERS.
If you have any
questions about National Teach Children to Save Day, please
contact GBA’s
Jennifer Stevens at (404) 420-2024 or PEP Chairman,
Pete Garrett,
Bank of
Upson, Thomaston, at (706) 647-5426. Please join your
colleagues in reaching even more students and make this one of
the most successful educational events in GBA and ABA history.

Calling All PEP Report Cards!
One
of Leadership GBA’s main program objectives is the
Personal Economics
Program
(PEP). Bankers across the state are educating their communities about
financial literacy every day. They do it with little to no
recognition. But many are not given the credit they are due.
Our 2006-2007 PEP
goal is to make at least 65,000 contacts. We are off to a great start,
but to achieve this goal by the deadline date of May 31, we need your
help. When you report your visits
and presentations, you help meet the growing financial education needs
in the state of Georgia. You may also earn an Outstanding PEP Award for
yourself and/or your bank.
It’s easy to ensure
that you and/or your bank are given the credit it’s due.
When you return from a visit to your
school or any other group presentation, take a few short minutes to
complete a
PEP Report Card by clicking here.
By completing and returning this
form, you let the GBA and the ABA Education Foundation know that your
bank is willing to do more in 2006/2007 to help provide financial
literacy in your community. You may also earn an Outstanding PEP Award for yourself and/or your bank.
PEP materials and brochures to assist you
with your presentations are also available through GBA. Topics include
personal financial management, credit responsibilities and many others.
Click here to review the PEP resources we recommend.
If you have any questions or need
assistance, please call GBA’s
Jennifer Stevens
at (404) 420-2024. With your help, we can make this year GBA’s
best year ever for PEP involvement.
