GBA Comments on DOR Proposed
Unclaimed
Property Changes
GBA staff recently met with GA Dept.
of Revenue
Commissioner Doug MacGinnitie about
proposed changes
to the unclaimed property rules and regulations that
affect delivery of property from abandoned
safe-deposit boxes. Banks would have to deliver
illegal substances, contraband and/or hazardous
materials found in an abandoned safe-deposit box to
the appropriate law enforcement agency. We're
pushing back on that idea and submitted a
comment letter
about the proposal.
The comment deadline is Aug. 2 if your bank would
like to share your concern, too.

Bank Closure Study Bill
Passes House
U.S.
Rep. Lynn Westmoreland's bill proposing a significant
study about the effects of bank closures passed by voice vote in
the House of Representatives late Thursday night. During debate
about the bill earlier in the week, fellow Georgia Rep. David
Scott supported the bill, noting the need to carefully
examine policies, practices and procedures for resolutions.
We'll keep you posted about the bill's status as it goes through
consideration in the Senate.

Elizabeth Chandler at 404.420.2027.

Slow as Molasses
Fed's Regional Economic
Outlook Little Changed
The Federal Reserve's latest Beige Book report on economic
conditions shows little change from June through early July for
the Sixth District, which includes Georgia. Recovery remains
slow. Bank contacts reporting to the Fed said credit is
available, but finding qualified borrowers remains difficult,
and competition for qualified loans is increasing.
