Reg. Reform Bill Passes Senate; What We Learned at Reg. Reform/Emerging Issues Seminars
The Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act passed the Senate Thursday. Now, it's on to the President for his signature. The bill is 2,300 pages covering every nook and cranny of our business, mandating 67 additional studies and 97 reports, requiring more than 500 potential new regulations and 5,000+ pages of associated regulatory instruction. Once the final bill is signed by the President, it goes into effect one day later, but it is going to take years to sort out, interpret, make rules and implement all the bill’s mandates. And, several significant accounting changes and proposals that are not part of the bill will also complicate matters. More about what we learned at the GBA Reg. In the News: Who is Covered by the New CFPB
There's no shortage of news stories analyzing the Dodd-Frank bill and how it will touch banks and customers. One issue that's created consumer and media confusion is just who is and who is not covered by the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). FDIC Gets More Power for Special Exams

The FDIC board this week approved a measure to give it greater ability to examine and request information from banks it does not supervise directly. Specifically, the revised memorandum of understanding (MOU) gives the FDIC backup supervision authority under an expanded list of circumstances, and at large, complex insured depository institutions, the FDIC will establish an expanded continuous, full-time staff presence on-site. FDIC Accepts Bid for Equity Interest in $1.85 Billion in CRE Loans
The FDIC has closed the sale of 40 percent equity interest in Multibank Structured Transaction, an LLC created to hold a portfolio of approximately 1,660 distressed CRE loans, of which around 50 percent are delinquent.  Some of the loans were from Georgia. More about the FDIC loan sale

Where to Get A Year's Supply of Mayo and a Small Business Loan
Walmart's Sam's Club has kicked off an online small business loan pilot program. The retail giant is teaming up with Superior Financial Group, a large Small Business Administration (SBA) lender, to make $5,000 to $25,000 loans available to its members who qualify. More about the Sam's Club pilot

Man Sentenced Again After a Second Conviction for Robbing the Same Bank
