Reg. Reform Bill Passes Senate;
What We Learned at Reg. Reform/Emerging Issues Seminars
The
Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act passed
the Senate Thursday. Now, it's on to the President for his
signature. The bill is 2,300 pages covering every nook and
cranny of our business, mandating 67 additional studies and 97
reports, requiring more than 500 potential new regulations and
5,000+ pages of associated regulatory instruction. Once the final bill is signed by the President, it
goes into effect one day later, but it is going to take years to sort out, interpret, make rules and implement all the
bill’s mandates. And, several significant accounting changes and
proposals that are not part of the bill will also complicate
matters.
More about what we learned at the GBA Reg. Reform/Emerging issues seminar,
including access to a chart outlining Community Bank impacts...
In the News: Who is Covered by
the New CFPB
There's
no shortage of news stories analyzing the Dodd-Frank bill and
how it will touch banks and customers. One issue that's created
consumer and media confusion is just who is and who is not
covered by the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
To be very clear, ALL banks, and customers of ALL banks, will be
subject to rules, regulations and protections made by the new
bureau.

backup supervision authority under an expanded list of
