Banking's Future was in Focus at President/CEO, Bank Counsel Conferences
More than 70 of Georgia's top bank executives and 23 bank
attorneys gathered this week at the annual combined GBA
President/CEO and Bank Counsel conferences. The common theme
among the presenters was moving forward with strategies in mind
to manage through the current economy as well as positioning for
recovery.

Summary of Deposits Released by FDIC, New Names
in the Top 5
The 321 FDIC institutions reporting deposits in Georgia as of
June 30 of this year held about $181 billion of in-state
deposits, down from about $186 billion at the same time in 2009.
That's one of the quick bits of information we noticed as the
FDIC released its yearly snapshot of statewide deposit market
share Thursday.

FDIC Insurance Coverage Update
Last week we reported about the FDIC's proposed rule to finalize
Dodd-Frank Act mandates implementing unlimited FDIC coverage of
noninterest-bearing transaction accounts through 2012.
We have

Important
Farm Loan Legislation up for Debate
The
GBA and other banking associations are supporting a bipartisan
bill (S.3221) that would allow certain borrowers to continue
eligibility for USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) guaranteed farm
loans. The bipartisan bill would suspend borrower term limits
for such loans through 2012.

Loan Applications in
SBA Loan Queue Approved
Earlier this week, all loan applications placed in the U.S.
Small Business Administration's loan queue by small business
borrowers received final approval. The approvals amount to 1,939
loans for nearly $970 million.

As of mid-September, 127 bank robberies had been reported in
Georgia for the year, according to the FBI. One hundred nine of
those have been in greater Atlanta. Those are a couple of stats

Fed Announces Plans for
New Advisory Council Focused on Community Depository
Institutions
The Federal Reserve said last week it plans to form a new advisory council
representing a broad group of insured community depository
institutions. The Community Depository Institutions Advisory
Council (CDIAC) will advise the Fed on the economy, lending
conditions and other issues.
