Georgia Banks Share $169,904 in Profit Distributions from ABA
Insurance Program |
|
February 17, 2008 — 47 Georgia banks that purchase D&O and
Fidelity Bond insurance from the ABA-sponsored insurance program
underwritten by
Progressive Casualty
Insurance Co.,
a GBA Strategic Partner, will share $169,904 in profit
distributions this year from the program's reinsurer, the
American Bankers Professional and Fidelity Insurance Company
(ABPFIC). Banks that are insureds of the
ABA-sponsored insurance program and are ABA members
automatically become owners of the mutual reinsurance company.
This year, ABPFIC has
declared a distribution of $5,000,000 in underwriting profits to
1,052 ABA member banks nationwide that participate in the
program. Based on the mutual program's success and
profitability, a profit distribution has been declared every
year since 1990, totaling $63,500,000 to date. |
|
The
total distributed to Georgia
banks is over $2,022,000 since program inception.
Participating banks nationwide will receive checks this year
ranging up to $67,700. A
typical bank in the program, with $170 million in assets, will
receive a check of $3,465 on average. The program, underwritten
by Progressive Casualty Insurance Co., offers directors and
officers liability, financial institution bond, Internet banking
liability, employment practices liability and other related
insurance products for community banks. Insured banks that are
ABA members are automatically mutual owners of ABPFIC. For more
information, please contact Progressive’s
Jason Faulkner at (800) 274-5222, Ext. 37583, or GBA’s

We
Will Miss... |
|
We are saddened to report the
death of a longtime GBA associate, Marion Holmes.
Marion died February 21st after an extended illness. When
a group of Georgia bankers gathered in 1965 to create the
Georgia Bankers Association Insurance Trust, Marion was the
agent selected to market the insurance to all the community bank
members. Through Marion's hard work, unceasing dedication
to the cause of a great benefit program at the best possible
price, and an attitude of service above self, the trust grew
from an idea to what is now the largest trust of its kind in the
country. Almost 300 banks now participate in the program,
which in large measure, is successful due to Marion's efforts to
help our members understand and appreciate the value of working
together for a common cause. Marion retired several years
ago after having brought along his protégé, Bruce Shaw,
and forming the Holmes/Shaw Agency. Marion's son,
David Holmes, is carrying on the family tradition of
working with the agency and is one of the calling officers for
the Trust. |
|
"Words cannot adequately express
what Marion has meant over the years to the Trust, to individual
bankers and to me, personally," said GBA President Joe
Brannen. "Marion always had a positive attitude, warm
smile, terrific sense of humor, contagious enthusiasm and zest
for living. He was one of those people you just felt good
being around; and to have him representing our Trust gave
bankers a confidence their benefits were in good hands. He
was an inspiration and set the bar at the highest level for
those who will follow after him," Joe concluded. In
addition to his son David, Marion is survived by his wife
Virginia-Anne Holmes, three other children, six
grandchildren and others. His obituary from the Tifton
Gazette can be read by clicking the More Details link above. |
