Q: What was your first job, and is there a lesson you learned there that you still use today?
A: My first job was actually Bank of Dawson when I was 18. Starting at 18, banking taught me how important relationships are. It taught me that everyone has a story, and each is unique. This lesson has become even more meaningful to me overtime as family and friends reach out for financial advice or open accounts with me.
Q: What was the most useful piece of advice you received from a mentor?
A: The most useful piece of advice I received was to learn each department of the bank. Starting off, I was a floater through all departments of the bank and it gave me a wide array of knowledge in all areas of banking. This taught me to step outside of my comfort zone which eventually lead me to the role I am in today.
Q: Tell us about one experience that exemplifies being a banker or your role at the bank.
A: One experience that reflects my role is how often I’m able to meet customers where they are—whether that’s going out to a farmer’s field to get documents signed, responding to after-hours loan requests, or helping someone navigate a difficult financial situation. In a small community bank, customers value having someone easily accessible.
Q: What would someone be surprised to learn about you?
A: Someone may be surprised to learn that banking wasn’t my original career path. I started college with a degree in pre-med biology, but changed direction after working part-time at the bank. I quickly realized how much I enjoyed the customer relationships, my coworkers and the work itself. The team at Bank of Dawson is like family to me and having that aspect in my life changed how I viewed my career.
