Q: What led you to a career in banking?
A: One of my early banking career tasks was to produce an ALCO package with an economic forecast in 2007 just before the great recession. I enjoyed the decision process that went into pricing loans and deposits depending upon the bank’s liquidity position and overall strategic goals. Then the great recession took hold, and I had to learn how to manage a bank’s balance sheet by feel while providing sound recommendations during a panicked economic environment. I learned more during that two year time period than any other time in my life which caused me to pursue a career in banking.

Q: What was the most useful piece of advice you received in your career?
A: If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not working. Your challenge is to avoid making the same mistake twice.

Q: Tell us about one experience you’ve had that exemplifies being a banker or your role at the bank.
A: I became my neighbor’s personal banker even though that was not my role at the bank. One day, my neighbor was out of town and got worried about $15,000 inside his house from selling a car, so he called me to collect the cash from his house and take it to the bank the next day to be deposited into his account. The next morning, I handed my neighbor’s cash to his actual personal banker and told the personal banker to call my neighbor for the CTR explanation.

Q: What would someone be surprised to learn about you?
A: I enjoy skateboarding and listening to punk rock music.

Q: First tap/click of the day?
A: Bloomberg News Daybreak

Q: Book that you love/has made an impact?
A: The Brutus Dilemma, and Betrayal in the Workplace

Q: Pet peeve?
A: When someone tells me they are too busy for a task.
