Q: What was your first job, and is there a lesson you learned there that you still use today?
A: My first job was at a very small parts store in Cairo, Georgia, named Cairo Auto Supply, where I worked in the office and checked in various stock items throughout my last year of high school and early college years. I met my husband of 18 years (wow, I feel old saying that!) while working there, as he was a delivery boy at the time. We started dating and have been together ever since. The biggest lesson I learned there was how beneficial a great employer can be. The couple who ran the business worked with my school schedule, always found extra duties for me to earn money, and took great care of me while I worked there. I will always cherish their support.
Q: What was the most useful piece of advice you received from a mentor?
A: It's tough to pinpoint one piece of advice that has shaped me, but the greatest mentor in my life has always been my mother. She had her first child at 15 and dropped out of high school, yet she managed to get her GED while raising three young kids. Her life taught me a powerful lesson: never be scared to work hard for what you want. Seeing her now as a manager and tech guru at a large company reminds me that with enough determination, there's no obstacle you can't overcome.
Q: Tell us about one experience that exemplifies being a banker or your role at the bank.
A: I don't just work at United National Bank—I've been a customer my entire adult life. They've been with me every step of the way, from my very first checking account to financing my car and house. Because I genuinely believe in our services, my job is a pleasure, and I'm proud to recommend us to clients.
Q: What would someone be surprised to learn about you?
A: I have a side hobby of playing the acoustic guitar. My dad is a true musician, and I grew up around music so it’s a natural joy of mine. I’ve always been far too self-conscious to play on a stage like him, but when I am at home, I enjoy playing just for myself.
Q: Pet peeve?
A: People that drive in the fast lane going the speed limit or less.
Q: Most used app?
A: Pandora Radio, I use it religiously. I find I do my best work when I have some kind of music going in the background.
Q: TV show or series you love?
A: Wheel of Fortune, it’s on my bucket list to be a contestant. I’ve applied and had an interview, so hopefully one day that dream will come true!
