Q: What led you to a career in banking?
A: I kind of fell into it. I got a job as a mail clerk/janitor/vault clerk at a local bank right after high school. As I entered my second year of college, I asked the chairman of the board of that bank where the future was going. His answer was Information Technology and corporate law. I figured IT was worth a try. That started my career. I am proud of the fact that I had the opportunity to do just about every job in the bank in my journey to my first position as an IT Manager, in that bank, right out of college.

Q: What was the most useful piece of advice you received in the early/formative years of your career?
A: I was told that the day I was able to take time off with my son and the bank not call me, I had done exactly what I was supposed to have done.

Q: Tell us about one experience you’ve had that exemplifies being a banker.
A: I was on my way to work one morning and saw a lady with a flat tire in the middle of the four-lane highway that runs through our town. It was freezing cold, and I hated to see her stranded like that. I turned around, got out and asked if I could change the tire for her. A guy on a bike was riding by and stopped to help. He told me I was going to get my suit dirty. In the end, the tire got changed and the lady was back on the road. I told the guy to load up his bike in my truck, and I gave him a ride to work. I made two friends that day!

Q: What would someone be surprised to learn about you?
A: I was very active in local theater in my younger years. The lessons I learned from the arts continue to serve me well today.

A: “The World and Everything in It”

Q: TV show or series you love?
