Q: What led you to a career in banking?
A: What led me to pursue a banking career at United National Bank was a combination of my passion for people and marketing, along with formative experience from 40 years ago. As I delved into the banking world, I realized that my affinity for people and marketing skills were invaluable assets. They not only allowed me to establish strong connections with our customers but also facilitated my growth in the banking industry. Over the years, I've honed my banking skills, which have not only enhanced my ability to learn more but have also positioned me to lead the bank into the realm of cutting-edge technology. My role as the Chief Technology Officer at UNB has opened doors to network with other banks, businesses, and vendors, enabling me to expand my knowledge base. I'm deeply committed to bridging the worlds of marketing and technology to drive innovation and growth for United National Bank.

Q: What was the most useful piece of advice you received in the early/formative years of your career?
A: One of the most valuable pieces of advice I received in my early career was to embrace change. My mentor emphasized that change is constant in any profession, and being adaptable and open to new ideas and approaches is key to personal and professional growth. This advice encouraged me to embrace challenges and opportunities as they arose, fostering a mindset of continuous learning and improvement.

Q: Tell us about one experience you’ve had that exemplifies being a banker or your role at the bank.
A: One memorable experience that exemplifies my role as a banker in a small- town local bank is the ability to provide personalized service tailored to fit our customers' individual needs. In our community-focused environment, we prioritize understanding our customers' unique financial situations and finding creative solutions to meet their requirements. For instance, I once had a long-time customer who entrusted me with his financial statement, net worth details, and even his last will and testament. He recognized the level of trust and confidentiality our bank provided. His decision to rely on me for these important matters was a testament to the strong relationships we build and the trust we establish with our customers.

Q: What would someone be surprised to learn about you?
A: I have six beautiful grandsons, I have experienced the thrill of riding a motorcycle, and I have worked in the tobacco fields on my family farm. These diverse experiences paint a picture of my life growing up in Grady County.
